Photosynthesis by isolated chloroplasts. X. Dependence of carbon dioxide assimilation on the photochemical reactions of chloroplasts.

چکیده
In addition to photosynthetic phosphorylation recent work has also provided direct experimental evidence (10-14) for the often asserted but never previously demonstrated capacity of isolated chloroplasts to assimilate CO2 photosynthetically to the level of carbohydrates. CO2 assimilation by isolated chloroplasts was found to be a dark process (15) dependent on a photochemically generated “assimilatory power” comprising two components: TPNH2 and ATP formed by the noncyclic and cyclic photophosphorylation reactions (Equations 3 and 4). Noncyclic photophosphorylation (Equation 3) provides all the three expected products of the light phase of photosynthesis: 02, TPNH2, and ATP. Cyclic photophosphorylation (Equation

Photosynthesis by isolated chloroplasts.
Photosynthesis in green plants requires not only photoelectron transport, oxygen evolution, and photophosphorylation, but also the synthetic reactions whereby carbon dioxide is assimilated and reduced to a number of organic compounds via the photosynthetic carbon reduction cycle1 and secondary biosynthetic pathways.2 Complete photosynthesis with isolated chloroplasts has for many years been a g...
متن کاملPhotosynthesis by isolated chloroplasts. Inhibition by DL-glyceraldehyde of carbon dioxide assimilation.
Photosynthetic carbon assimilation and associated CO(2)-dependent O(2) evolution by chloroplasts isolated from pea shoots and spinach leaves is almost completely inhibited by 10mm-dl-glyceraldehyde. The inhibitor is without appreciable effect on photosynthetic electron transport, photophosphorylation, the carboxylation of ribulose 1,5-diphosphate or the reduction of 3-phosphoglycerate, but appa...
متن کاملPhotosynthesis by isolated chloroplasts, simultaneous measurement of carbon assimilation and oxygen evolution.
Photosynthetic carbon assimilation by isolated chloroplasts and its associated oxygen evolution were measured simultaneously in a single simplified reaction mixture. Each showed an initial lag prior to the attainment of the maximal rate and the photosynthetic quotient was unity during the period of illumination. Following illumination an oxygen uptake was observed in the dark which was not acco...
متن کاملPhotosynthesis of root chloroplasts developed in Arabidopsis lines overexpressing GOLDEN2-LIKE transcription factors.
In plants, genes involved in photosynthesis are encoded separately in nuclei and plastids, and tight cooperation between these two genomes is therefore required for the development of functional chloroplasts. Golden2-like (GLK) transcription factors are involved in chloroplast development, directly targeting photosynthesis-associated nuclear genes for up-regulation. Although overexpression of G...
متن کاملPhotosynthetic assimilation of carbon dioxide and acetate by isolated chloroplasts.
Chloroplasts isolated by methods similar to that described by Arnon et al. (1) are capable of incorporating acetate carbon into both lipid and n)on-lipid materials when fortified with appropriate cofactors (2, 3,4, 5). The actual rate of incorporation of acetate carbon in these preparations was, however, very small compared with the normal rate of photosynthesis (1-2 jumoles/mg chlorophyll'hr) ...
